What kinds of issues should be brought to us?
Anything that involves a potential violation of our contract with the
school district is of interest to the Association as a whole. Additionally,
and maybe most importantly, you are entitled to support and possible
legal representation should you become involved in potential disciplinary
action from administrators. If you suspect that you might be the subject
of disciplinary action, see us first BEFORE having a conference with an
administrator. If you are in a meeting with an administrator that
suddenly becomes uncomfortable, politely but firmly end the
conversation and ask to continue the meeting another time. Then meet
with a Site Rep ASAP. You are entitled to Association presence at these
meetings.

Although Site Reps are your liaison to the WTA, they don’t negotiate the
contract. Site Reps will let you know what's going on and they can relay
your ideas to the Executive Board, but the
negotiations team is in a
better position to respond to specific concerns.

What kinds of things won’t the site reps bring to the Rep
Council?
Not every disagreement with the site or district is necessarily an
Association matter. For example, curricular concerns may be best
addressed through department chairs, grade-level or team leaders;
problems with facilities (classrooms or restrooms) should first be brought
to the attention of the appropriate administrator for proper resolution.
Only when all other avenues are exhausted AND the issue appears to be
a violation of our contract will we bring it to the whole association. But by
all means, let us know what’s going on.

The association is not in the habit of mediating disputes among
members. We do encourage that in the spirit of union and solidarity we
address our colleagues in a professional manner to resolve disputes.

When does the Rep Council meet?
We meet at WTA headquarters on the second Tuesday of the month at 3:
45 pm during the school year, and any member (not just site reps) may
attend. Please feel free to approach us at any time to discuss problems
or concerns you might have. If one of us doesn’t know the answer,
perhaps we can help find it!
